那不是他常见的巴西人温暖的棕色或黑色，而是一种奇特的、沉静的灰绿色——像被时光打磨光滑的橄榄石，蕴藏着某种古老而温柔的光泽；又像雨季结束时，瀑布上空被水汽氤氲了的森林，神秘而幽深。那双眼睛嵌在有些忧郁的五官间，带着一种与周遭热烈氛围格格不入的冷静与倦意，仿佛看透了太多风浪，最终归于一片深邃的湖泊。
少年感觉自己像是被一道无声的闪电迎面劈中，僵在原地。心脏在胸腔里失速狂跳，撞击着肋骨，声音大得他怀疑整个花园都能听见。他身上还带着机油、汗水和阳光混合的气息，此刻却因为这双眼睛，生平第一次感到了某种近乎狼狈的自惭形秽。
“……普罗斯特先生，这是我们的小儿子，埃尔顿，家里都叫他Beco。”母亲温柔的声音响起，打破了这诡异的凝滞，“Beco，这位是阿兰·普罗斯特先生——他最近从法国来我们这里休养。”

三个月后，埃尔顿终于离开了重症监护室，转入普通病房。房间里堆满了从世界各地涌来的花束与祝福卡片，昔日的对手与队友们也送来了各式小礼物——迷你头盔、漫画书，甚至还有崭新的赛车手套和方向盘。然而，这些满载善意的物件，此刻在他眼中却如同无声的嘲讽。所有人都殷切期盼着那个他重返驾驶舱的奇迹画面——但这画面，永远不会再出现了。
主治医生的判决，比当年阿兰在赛后听他辩解说“那里我其实没想撞你”时的表情更为冰冷：“塞纳先生，虽然我的孩子是你的粉丝——但是，你的颈椎和神经损伤确实是不可逆的，你的手臂力量和腿部力量也永远无法恢复到精准操控赛车所需的程度——也就是说，你必须彻底告别任何形式的竞速运动。”
埃尔顿正要开口反驳，却被姐姐薇薇安·塞纳一记凌厉的眼刀硬生生钉回了病床上——而他只能继续闷闷不乐地继续坐在病床上，脖子上撑着高高的康复用的颈托，用打满石膏的手摆弄着那只从事故现场捡回来的已经破损的不成样子的赛车手套。
某天，他正心不在焉地戳着烤得有些发焦的果酱面包，负责照料他的护士推门而入，一副见了鬼的表情，语气里带着一丝异样：“……埃尔顿，我想你可能需要看看这个。”
电视屏幕上，正在直播一场关于赛车安全的论坛。镜头一转，聚焦在演讲台那个熟悉的身影上——是阿兰·普罗斯特，他戴着金丝眼镜，身着笔挺西装，神情是惯有的理智与冷静。
他的发言条理清晰，态度温和，脸上挂着那种完美无瑕、却总让人隐隐感到“不妙”的微笑。
“……鉴于当前的安全形势，我认为GPDA应该重启，并且迫切需要一位新的领导者——一位能切身理解赛道风险、洞察车手需求，并具备足够威望的人物。因此，我坚信，这个席位最合适的人选……会是埃尔顿·塞纳。”
病房内的空气瞬间凝固。
护士倒吸一口凉气：“上帝啊，他知不知道他在说什么？！”
薇薇安竭力维持着表面的镇定，但手中微微颤抖的果汁杯出卖了她内心的波澜。
而埃尔顿本人，则彻底僵住，仿佛被人从温暖的被窝里一把拽出，直接扔进了冰窟。
紧接着，电视台的镜头疯狂捕捉着这一爆炸性提议，媒体的追问如潮水般涌向医院，场面一度失控。
而始作俑者，那位狡猾的法国人，只是在镜头前微微颔首，嘴角勾起一抹不易察觉的弧度，仿佛在说：“将死。”——如同一位棋手，落下了决胜的一子。
