Akaza preferred the winter over all other seasons. Summer was terribly sticky and hot, and spring and fall were a short joke in between summer and winter. In comparison to either, winter was superior. The harsh and biting cold sorted out the weak from the strong. Plus the cloud cover made it easier for demons to wander freely. That’s the reasoning that he’d come up with in the last hundred and some-odd years anyway. The same with refusing to eat women, or fighting the hashiras over other demon slayers. He wasn’t sure why (he was never sure why) he preferred some things over others. Doma said they were traces of preferences from when he was human. But Doma was a weak-willed idiot.
Akaza doesn’t remember a single thing from when he was human. Remembering being a weak human wouldn’t serve to make him stronger. That part of his life, whatever it was, was over, and he was stronger for having shed it.

Summary
At the age of seven, Soyama Hakuji learned that he hated the world. At the age of nine, he was tattooed as a criminal, and he learned that it hated him right back. And then, at the age of eleven, his father died, and Hakuji’s world ended. He resigned himself to an existence of suffering and sin, sinking in to all of the awful things that life had to offer.
