Summary
A year after the end of the war, Dimitri and Felix have settled in as the King of a united Fódlan and his right-hand man. Duty has come first for both of them, even as they've been repairing their relationship, with Felix taking on some of the responsibility of looking after Dimitri, whose psyche remains fragile.
Everything is going very well, until a delegation from the Church comes for a state visit, and seeing Dimitri reunited with their beloved Professor-now-Archbishop pushes Felix into soul-sickness as he is forced to reckon with what he had--Dimitri--and what he's lost--also Dimitri. He's never truly known a world without Dimitri in it. He's always loved Dimitri.
And he will never love another.

“You finally got what you wanted, right?”
Adam’s head snapped up. Declan was leaning against the open door of the Volvo, one hand splayed flat against the roof, the other curled around the frame. He stared at Adam.
“Excuse me?”
Adam slipped his phone into the pocket of his coat and pivoted to face him. Declan pushed off the car and closed the space between them until Adam was bracketed between him and the car’s hood.
“Influence. A seat at the table,” Declan said, his voice low. “Was it worth it?”
Something flared, hot and ugly, under Adam’s skin. His gaze slid to Declan’s tie, the knot was just a little loosened, resting below the hollow of his throat.
“What do you think?” he asked, searching for Declan’s eyes.
“I don’t know.” Declan shrugged. His breath curled visible between them, mingling with Adam’s. “Sometimes people spend their whole lives working towards something they don’t even want.”
Adam’s eyes flicked back to the tie. The neck. The mouth.or Adam has everything he ever wanted. When he sees Declan at a party, something hungry wakes inside him.
