Summary
Jack doesn’t even think about it when he feels the sweat drip down his neck and sets down his grill tongs to whip his shirt off. It’s a hot day, he’s grilling in his own backyard, and why shouldn’t he take his shirt off like he always does?
Except he’s grilling for Robby today, spending the evening together for dinner and the game, and Robby is standing in the screen doorway with his beer in hand. He’s watching and waiting for a chance to help; can never let anyone do anything for him without trying to lessen the load. Jack becomes acutely aware of his presence when Robby starts coughing, choking on his beer.

“Do you expect me to believe you can’t tell heart sounds anymore?” Michael’s tone was clipped but underneath lingered a shadow of suspicion.
“I’ll remind you,” he murmured, mouth near Jack’s ear.He unbuttoned his shirt with deliberate restraint, exposing skin from collarbone to sternum.
“Listen,” he said, palm flat against his own chest. “Now.”Bookmarked by Lexcyx

The first thing Jack thinks, as he looks down to see the hilt of a scalpel sticking out of his lower belly pudge — is that it could have been so much worse if it hadn’t been February.

“Jack unlocks the door, pushing it open gently. He looks at his watch and notices it’s 7:45 in the fucking morning. It was a long night, multiple strokes, a couple of seizures, an overdose. You name it, it probably happened. All he wanted to do was see Robby, his Robby.”
Robby sleeps with the TV on, and Jack comes home to a sleeping Robby…

Summary
“You’re staring,” she chastised him. “Leave the girl alone.”
“We all know you have a type, boss,” Emery chimed in.
He truly didn’t think he didn’t have a type. But the argument Parker and Emery had put together was sort of irrefutable. He did not appreciate how they peeled back his layers right there in the bar. They were annoyingly right. He was making connections he would rather not be making. Particularly who he was making them about. There was no way in hell he was going to connect the feelings about Robby to the feelings he had to his late wife. He pushed the thoughts into the pile of emotions in his chest, next to the never-ending grief that had made its home there as he opened the door to his apartment.
