    Shouta has built his entire life around endurance. Around learning how to fold himself into the narrow, forgotten spaces between duty and exhaustion, where no one can ask too much of him, and where he never has to admit how desperately he wants something to stay, how frightening it feels to hope that someone might remain even when he gives them nothing loud or easy to hold onto. He survives by being useful, by being steady, by making himself small enough that his absence would never feel like a loss.
    Hizashi’s jealousy, by contrast, is sharp and restless and quietly cruel in its devotion. It is not born from distrust of Shouta, but from the unbearable fear of being replaceable in a life that already teaches Shouta how to disappear too well. He needs to be the closest person to him, not for status, not for pride, but because being anything less feels like standing one step away from being left behind.
