The living Danny—maybe playing along, or maybe responding genuinely—raised both hands in a show of harmlessness. Like Lancer truly had him at gunpoint.
Danny Fenton’s wet cold dead body was so heavy in Lancer’s single cradling arm.
“Who are you?” Lancer asked very simply.
And Danny, arms still raised high, let out a sigh deep enough to deflate his shoulders. Whatever light was in his eyes went dull, resigned to an acceptance Lancer could not in the moment understand.
“I am your worst student,” Danny answered. And he lowered one arm exclusively to point. “And THAT is the dead body of my ghost clone.”

Alone on the farthest outskirts of Amity Park, Danny Fenton and Edward Lancer bury the dead body of Danny's clone. It is long and tedious work, and Danny can't dodge Lancer's questions forever. Surely it's only fair of Lancer to demand to know what he has been pulled into. Surely Danny could use someone on his side, now that his evenings are spent burying his clones.

Fortunately, Jack has thought of the perfect incentive: in exchange for the ghost boy’s help with their research, the Fentons will help him find and reconnect with his living family, which he clearly misses!
Their daughter enthusiastically supports this idea. Their son is less enthused.

A core is basically equivalent to a soul. And his parents are right here, standing over it with gleaming scalpels and grins of delight - as if they hadn’t just stripped a person of their entire body, as if they aren’t about to dissect and pull into pieces the most intimate part of their very being-

People don't ask about the ghost boy's death.
It wasn't a spoken agreement, but everyone in Amity had seen this boy, this ghost determined to do so much good, and they'd refused to bring it up. They had ideas, of course. No one looked at a child who died so young and didn't think about what could have done it. But they didn't ask. Couldn't ask. How would they dare?
Except for a certain pair of ghost hunters. Not that people didn't have theories as to why, but. It was tasteless, regardless of how they were dealing with their loss.

Phantom doesn't remember his life before death, and he's happy that way. The Fenton's, though, make him ask the questions he never wanted answers to.
