“In the founding myth of the Lykaia, the king of Arcadia holds a feast for the gods, but he attempts to test Zeus’s omniscience by including human flesh in the feast, probably that of his own son. Zeus struck his house with a thunderbolt as punishment, ending his line. The festival it birthed celebrated the rite of passage from youth into manhood. Sacrifices were made to Zeus at nighttime towards the end of May, a single morsel of human flesh intermingled with that of the sacrificial animal, and whoever ate it was said to transform into a wolf for nine years."

In trouble with the police, Will Graham is tasked with finding himself a bodyguard, but Will isn't as vulnerable as he seems. By following Jack Crawford's command, Will unknowingly invites a presence into his house that draws out new passions as well as old savageries. In between delicate underground transactions and attacks on his pack runs a river of blood, starting between Will's own fangs, and the one adversary aiming to bury Will for good. -

Will laughs incredulously, “That was rude? That was rude? Summary
For approximately ten minutes, Will entertains the possibility that the whole evening before had been a very vivid dream, not because he is particularly doubtful of his memory, but because Doctor Lecter - Hannibal - doesn’t leave any evidence of his visit, no matter where Will’s keen eyes look for it.
And he does look for it.

Will snorts his laughter, shifting to tuck his hands under his arms. “Come on,” he says, turning his head to look over at Hannibal. “The chances of two serial killers being in one car would be astronomical.”

“That’s a pretty good bedside manner, Dr. Lecter,” Will murmured.
“I’ve never received a complaint,” Hannibal replied without flinching as he smoothed the sheets over Will’s stomach. “Though I am a bit out of practice.”
“It’s like riding a bike.”
Hannibal smiled mildly. “And being my patient? Is that like riding a bike, Will?”
Their eyes finally met again, and Will felt the tickle of danger on his flesh once more that made his breath quicken. He should have been ashamed of himself, but shame — that burden that he had carried for so long — felt far away, a rotting carcass at the bottom of an ocean.
“Something like that,” he said.
[When Will catches a tropical virus, it's an opportunity for Hannibal to play doctor again - only this time Will isn't content to let him hide behind the guise of medicine.]
