Ilya blinks a moment as Shane’s mother stands in his doorway with multiple bags, before he remembers his manners, and says hoarsely, “Please come in, and sit down. Let me take something, yes?”

So I had some truly incomprehensible conversations recently with people who firmly believe that Heated Rivalry is Russian propaganda -- because the (Canadian) show depicts a queer Russian man as sympathetic? I guess?? -- and while that was obviously a bugfuck weird opinion to have, it did inspire me to think more about the timeline of the show (as pulled from the timeline I put together) vs. the timeline of modern Russian legislation targeting the queer population.

Ilya is one of the last left in the locker room. Gear half-stripped, gloves off but he’s still clumsy wrestling with his phone on the bench.
What do u mean
No question mark, just the blunted grammar that he usually corrects, brushing right past a come on or suck up to insist Ilya shouldn't know that word. He all the time ignores the effort Ilya puts in, the ways he tries and tries, how he’s getting better. When Hollander responds with barely a three second delay, Ilya misses the criticism.
It won't. Come out.

Laser blasters, alien dance clubs, mercenaries, a little too much public sex for Ianto's tastes, sneaky plans and circular logic can be found here. Set after Something Borrowed, but not particularly "AU" (at least, at time of writing) it slots into season 2.
