Summary
The thing is, while Edwin appreciates Charles’ chivalry in pretending it’s nothing more than a bit of snow, the fact of the matter is that it’s a lot more than that. The whole wretched business started two weeks ago when they were breaking into an abandoned witch’s workshop, and Charles broke a little glass bottle labelled, ominously, The Shove. Edwin had opened his mouth to warn Charles, but he wasn’t quick enough, and they both caught a faceful of chalky, overpoweringly rose-scented powder that made Edwin sneeze for the time since 1916. He had hoped that time might have diminished its efficacy, but it wasn’t long before the effects began to make themselves known. Over the last two weeks, it’s become clear that not only is the spell still quite functional, but it appears to be contriving to put them in—Edwin feels hotly embarrassed all over to think of it—romantic situations.

Summary
Charles could hear the sirens, dopplering closer as the lights painted the night blue. “I have to go,” said the boy, more to himself than to Charles. “If they catch me here—well. It doesn’t matter. You won’t remember this.” He smiled, and it was like the moon appearing shyly from behind a cloud. “Goodbye, Charles.”
Charles Rowland should have died at sixteen, but he didn’t. Three years later—eager to escape call centre purgatory—he joins the Lost and Found Department as a psychopomp, charged with escorting the recently deceased to their afterlives. Charles blinks. “What?”
“I would like it if you were–if you would be selfish with me.” Edwin clears his throat, fussing with his cuffs, and raises his chin stubbornly. “I would like you to know that you are very well loved. By me. I would like you to be greedy, with my.. with my love. As you permit yourself to be with nothing and no one else.”

Something between annoyance and acceptance flashed across Edwin’s face. “I believe you have it right,” Edwin said. “It would seem that would be the form ghosts take when they heal.”
Charles nodded. “Kinda brills, honestly. Like a turtle goin’ into their shell or something.”
Edwin squinted his eyes at the comparison. “I suppose,” he said. And then almost immediately collapsed when he tried to get up.
“Oi!” Charles said and wrapped his arms around him. “What’re you doing? You wanna be an orb again?”

Summary
The first time Charles attempts eyeliner as a ghost is a bit of a disaster. Edwin steps in to help and in the heat of the moment Charles kisses Edwin in gratitude. That's all it is, a platonic thank you kiss between best mates, or so that's what Charles says to himself and neither of them questions why he keeps up with the kiss tradition every time Edwin does his make-up.
