Summary
He turns with a smile forced onto his face to greet the unwelcome arrival. “Mr Vidal,” he says, impeccably friendly, as the young man approaches lighting up along the way. So much for peace and quiet, or for as close to those as might be possible while Roper and his party remain in Zermatt.
The flare of the nearby flame adds shadows in the dark, turning the stranger briefly demonic before the deceptive innocence of youth returns; Vidal is carelessly handsome, which somehow makes everything worse.
If the world was simpler and fairer, criminals would never look like angels and the task of telling one from the other would be trivial.

Summary
Zelda Harkinian needed something to pad her college applications with, so she was told. A extra-curricular activity. Something that showed school community engagement. But how, and with what? She didn't play sports. She didn't play an instrument. She didn't have any interest in student government.
How about the school newspaper?
It sounded easy enough. She already liked to write. It was just the right amount of school community engagement without having to run for a class office, and didn't take so much effort as, say, a team sport or learning an instrument. And if she could land a section editor position, even better!
Enter East Castle Town Prep's award winning school paper, The Gossip Stone. And enter its editor-in-chief, Link Avalon, who took the paper and his position perhaps a little too seriously. Who had no problem calling someone out in front of the entire staff and seemed to even delight in their embarrassment. Who never accepted a plan B because there was only ever just plan A. But come on. It was a high school newspaper run by a bunch of teenagers. How hard could it be?
And just what did Zelda unwittingly get herself into?
