The bells rang at seven-thirty sharp, just as they did every morning, their sound spilling across the stone courtyard like a command rather than an invitation. They were tuned to be pleasant — soft enough to suggest tradition, loud enough to make sure no one forgot who was in charge.
Beca Mitchell heard them from her classroom and didn’t look up.
She was already there, as usual, sitting on the edge of her desk with a chipped mug cooling in her hands. The coffee was terrible — burnt and watery, courtesy of the faculty lounge — but she drank it anyway, because it was hot and because it was hers. Small mercies mattered here.

The Bellas continue to win, she has a sweet and loving boyfriend, and a best friend who she might have a crush on.However of this pretty much gets upended right off the bat when Amy has a nightmare inducing wardrobe malfunction.
This puts the Bellas existence in jeopardy and introduces a new person who is her rival but also make Beca question everything about herself. Normally she would count on Chloe and Jesse to help her keep her head, but she can’t go to either with this.
