    Summary

After three straight days of fighting off the latest interdimensional threat, Barry’s team sounds about sixty seconds away from handcuffing him to the med-bay if it means getting him to sit still, have something to eat, and maybe even get some sleep.

Which is rich, if you ask Len. (Not that anyone is.) Because between the two of them, Barry is the one with a metahuman healing factor, and Len is the one who got shot today.

Iris asks Len to take Barry home. Len finds that the request has some room for interpretation.

    Summary

“Look, the only way I know how to survive is to shove it in people’s faces as hard as I can. You want to be my date, you’re going to have to let me put you on display. You cool with that?”

Barry nodded slowly, considering. “Yeah. I can be cool with that.”

“Really? You’re cool with letting me kiss you? Letting me touch you, in public? Helping me put on a bit of a show for Central City’s criminal elite?”

Barry swallowed hard, but didn’t look away. “Is that really how you treat guys you date?”

Len allowed a bit of a smirk to creep back to his face. “No, actually. But these people don’t know that. Like I said, I have a reputation to uphold.”

    ~*~

To track down a ring of smugglers moving goods into Central City, Barry convinces Captain Cold to bring him as his date to Frank Santini's annual end-of-summer party. Len is willing enough, especially since it means spending the evening with Barry Allen under his arm. Neither of them is expecting feelings to enter the equation.

    Summary

Everyone knew how the story went: climb the beanstalk, brave the terrible giant, and if you were lucky and clever and quick you could come away with fortune enough to change your world. If you weren't…well, not every story had a happy ending.

Bucky's problem was that his story had gone wrong before it started. He wasn't braving the giant for a chance at fortune, he was climbing the beanstalk to save his skin—ironic, when he knew the giant was probably going to stomp him flat.

Except he didn't. Didn't stomp him flat, didn't send him back down the beanstalk, didn't act much like a terrible giant at all. He was kind in a way Bucky didn't know how to deal with because everyone knew that wasn't how the world worked. But Bucky was slowly coming to understand that at the top of a beanstalk nothing was what it seemed and that sometimes, with enough determination, what everyone knew could be changed completely.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is achingly beautiful. At turns sad and uplifting, this is one of those stories that you surface from like a dream, and realize you'll carry a part of it with you always.
