Jakazure couldn’t be dreaming. No, she was somewhere in between dream and reality, aware in her mind that the noises coming from down the hall were real, but powerless in her body still paralyzed from sleep to do anything about it. She wrestled with the chemicals in her brain trying to keep her still, needing to break free before the steps got too close. Any sound, any movement, was a sign that Satsuki could be in danger. Jakazure was useless if she couldn’t protect her from that much.
Her hand took hold of her knife just in time to hold it at the throat of the stranger leaning over her, but then long black hair fell against her face, and she dropped the weapon heavy onto her chest before she could spill Satsuki’s blood by mistake.
“I’m sorry,” she choked out, voice scratchy from sleep, but Satsuki merely held a finger to her lips to silence her.
