Summary
Ao'nung and Lo'ak met far before Ao'nung met the one and only golden boy Neteyam Sully. Theyre on the same basketball team, upcoming seniors and theyve bonded in a violent and obnoxious way. They're friends. And Ao'nung likes to think that friends warn each other when the incoming older sibling is the definition of Husband Material so the first time they meet isnt with Ao'nung sweaty and messy from practice. Just a thought.

Summary
After Lo'ak safely returns from being left outside of the reef, Neteyam goes for a walk on the beach and has a conversation with Ao'nung that sets him on a different path, and though he doesn't know it, saves his life.
(Basically I'm exploring the question: What character development would have needed to happen in order for Neteyam to avoid his death in the movie?)
