Summary
The smell of blood hits Lan Zhan before he even steps inside. Wei Ying, his sweet, sweet boy, stands over Jin Zixun’s unmoving body, a knife hanging slack in his blood-slicked hand.
Lan Zhan does not ask a single thing. Stepping forward, he wraps his fingers around the knife, and eases it from Wei Ying’s trembling grip.
“Tell them I did it,” Lan Zhan says. “Tell them that it was me.”
Wei Ying can only stare as Lan Zhan proceeds to smear the blood all over himself, a sorrowful smile ghosting over his handsome features.
The words go unspoken in the air: I love you too much to ever let you bear the weight of your own sins.

But that doesn’t stop his heart from shouting out in rage. Wei Ying deserves to marry someone he loves, not just the first suitor who appears. He deserves to be happy in his marriage.

And then Wei Ying’s eyes flutter open. He gasps dramatically as if he’s made a new discovery. He turns to Lan Wangji with something bordering on excitement edging into his grin. His breath smells like wine and spice and his voice is excited in the way it always is when he’s plotting a new prank or scheme. “Aiya! Lan Zhan!”
Lan Wangji feels something bordering on fear bubbling in his chest. “Mn?”
“Let’s get married!”

Summary
Getting scientific funding was always a drag. Wei Wuxian had some luck with it in the past, but the work he truly cared about had been rejected. It wasn't until he found the ideal candidate that he could begin human trials--on himself.
Lan Qiren had said he would make for an unethical scientist, after all. Lan Wangji held more respect for him, but the baseline opinion of his character wasn't much different.
There's no way Lan Qiren could've predicted that his downslide would begin with a cancer diagnosis. And as for Lan Wangji? Well, if Wei Wuxian had only six months to live, at least he'd see his beautiful face from time to time, even if it's frowning.
In the beginning, Lan Wangji believed the dark circles under Wei Wuxian's eyes were from too many late nights in the lab. The weight loss, his poor eating habits (he'll have to pack an extra lunch one of these days). Then he found needle marks lining his arms and later caught Wei Wuxian seated in a dimly lit laboratory, an IV hanging next to his guant face. He nearly reported him to the board.
But then, why would a healthy Wei Wuxian experiment on himself?
To help the man he loves, Lan Wangji would have to betray everything he knows.
