Hans didn't know when it had happened.
Perhaps the seeds for it had been planted from the very beginning. Back when he taunted a rude blacksmith's boy who became consumed by the burning of his village and who had beat him at every turn in what skills he had spent his entire noble omegan life acquiring.
Archery, sword fighting, horse riding, hunting, gaining wenches attention…
The damned stupid alpha.
But that wasn't all. Henry even mastered getting closer to Sir Hans. From page, to friend, to confidant... Somewhere along the way, Hans found he wanted a future with Henry.
A home, a marriage, a mating, a child…
So many things he knew he couldn't even attempt to voice the desire for.
Henry disappears for weeks suddenly, only to return demanding a formal duel with Sir Hans.
Little does the young lord know, Henry didn't need him to voice those desires to work towards making them come true for him. In fact, he makes them come true so well that it triggers an intense and fertile heat for his lord soon after he introduces him to their new home.

“What do you want with me?” Hans dares asks, and he would never admit the cold tendrils of anxiety, of fear, slithering up his spine at waiting for the answer.
Erik pushes himself off the bars and turns to head for the exit door, “That bastard took my lord from me, so I took his,” he explains so calmly, so matter-of-fact like they were discussing their favorite wines over a noble feast.
“So this really is all about revenge?” Hans asks incredulously.
Erik pauses and turns back towards Hans through the bars. His hand comes up to slowly drag his fingers down the cell door, the sensual manner of the action having a sudden flare of nausea hitting Hans.

AU - Henry dies in his duel against Erik
Hans could admit it here, where no one stood ready to prod his dignity for weakness: he missed Henry. Missed him with the helpless ache of a child left alone in an unfamiliar place. Three moonfulls since, grief had made its den of him; lingering where it pleased and inventive as ever in finding new ways to make him feel the fool.
Hans can’t let go. Erik brings back the sword and asks for the noose.
