    Percy had agreed to spend the summer in Atlantis. His mother had been rather persuasive about it, and the growing tensions between him and Annabeth had convinced him that getting away from dry land and taking a step back would do him a world of good.

    He had simply forgotten that he had never spent more than two days in a row in Atlantis and that, as a result, he knew nothing about its customs and traditions.

    Not to mention that his father would probably see this as an opportunity to convince him to stay, this time for good.

    This story is an exercice, I'll post one chapter per day through the year !

    A few warnings before you read, I'm mainly basing this on the timeline of the books, not the series. Because of this, Percy is now legal, Annabeth is working on architectural plans for Olympus, and I intended to focus on the undersea family. There is absolutely no Annabeth bashing in this story !

    Percy is taking a break with Annabeth after college (he’s now 21) and is doing so in Atlantis.
    Poseidon doesn’t tell Percy he accidentally accepted a courtship with a merman in hopes that he’ll fall in love and stay. When Percy finds out he’s honest with Isole and Isole is mature about it as well. They stay friends.
    Percy is pissed with Poseidon though and is dealing with a lot.
    Sally is more focused on her new life so he feels abandoned there.
    Annabeth is no longer his girlfriend abandoned there.
    Doesn’t feel like he fits on land or in sea culturally.
    Now there is a potential prophesy (Ch 41? Apollos perspective). With bad guys. Apollo has apparently known for thousands of years that Percy will eventually be his immortal husband and has been trying very hard not to interfere.

    Big themes are Atlantean culture and struggling to accept yourself. Growing pains.

    Great politics and emotions. Loyalty, drama, misunderstanding and problem solving things that happened a thousand years ago. Minor kingdom building.

    If you want a story about Loyalty and how it can work for and against you here is a great one.
    Each nation has a concept they keep that will kill them if they break. The other nations don’t really understand or know this about each other because miscommunication and cultural differences.

    Fire nation has loyalty
    Earth has contracts
    Air has a way
    Water has family

    Zuko breaks his loyalty to Ozai the Firelord and almost died for it.

    All fire nation has to be loyal to the Firelord as decreed by Kiyoshi. Before it was a bunch of lords with individual territories and they would fight eachother cause fire fights. Also fire novels have dragon blood and they think differently. Then the fire pirates killed Kiyoshi’s kid so she came by with a hurricane on the day of the black sun—killed the pirates and a LOT of fire nation—and ordered everyone to follow one fire noble. This is not a natural thing for fire and cause insanity in the royal family. Plus Sozin married a dark dragon.
    More stuff basically Koh (Avatar kid, face stealer, spirit of death) was upset humans killed that water lady avatar when she went crazy. So it decided to pull a Zetsu and set things up so knowledge of spirit healers and two type benders and communication between nations broke down.

    At this point Zuko being exiled does not have to listen to Kiyoshis decree, gets taken by the moon to also be a water bender (thus no longer possible to be a Firelord). Finds Fire and Water nation refugees in Earth kingdom. Takes the in. Makes a deal with Earth King to get land. Builds territory. Land turns out to be big dragon volcano about to blow. Airbender in air temple right above them. Sorta friendly: it’s the mechanics people. Kills General Fong and his army when they invade. Really struggles with Aangs childishness and air bending mentality. Goes dragon rawr for a minute but not actually dragon.
    Aang makes Koh stop, Sokka kills Ozai when he’s invading Zukos territory, Zuko heals Volcano and stops it from blowing.
    Azula is healed with water to not be a sociopath. Still ruthless but better. She becomes a lord of the calandra after Ozai death with mom’s help.

    Long fic to get through took me 4 days but it’s great.

     

    Zuko: *is part dragon which means loyalty and truth is Big Deal*
    Aang: so I lied to you when we first met
    Zuko: *absolutely pissed*
    Aang: *surprised Pikachu*

    Zuko: *is amazing leader willing to do anything to keep whoever is HIS people safe*
    His people: we love you. A bit scared of you, but we love you.
    Zuko: what-

    Aang: your were hurt but now you’re just throwing a tantrum and hurting people for fun now.
    Koh: and? What are you going to do about it
    Aang: time-out.
    Koh: what?
    Aang: technically I’m your parent so that means I can put you in time out. Now go to your room.
    Koh: NOOOoooooo

    I loved that Toph finally got her World Changing Field Trip with Zuko lol
    A realistic look into the complications that come from not being able to communicate—different languages, and overcoming that. Also cultural differences.

    So, it didn’t start out like this.

     

    Alfred would scoff at the statement, about how Bruce was trying to justify the whole situation to himself. It had started out as a simple design, black everything with black outlines and black hood. It got a little more intense as the world went on, got wind of his ghost on the streets, and became scared of The Bat . So Bruce got a little more creative with it, Alfred and him had a good laugh over the name, the scare, and Alfred had a vicious streak of humor that he had passed onto his ward-

     

    So now the suit had a visible bat-theme, an insignia to drape in the shadows and to paint across the streets of Gotham.

     

    It only took a year into the whole charade of heroism for Bruce to overhear a conversation between some goons- some low level thug hired by the Riddler this week- about nothing at all pertaining to what the hell the Riddler was doing in the sewers but instead:

    “ The Batman can fly, you know, I’ve seen his wings.”

    --

    A world where nobody has wings, but people think they do, and that changes everything.

    Lee you should definitely read this, I know this is more Batman focused than your preferred Jason Todd fics but MAN ITS GOOD, the family vibes are immaculate.

    This has been my ALL TIME FAVORITE, space championships fanfic. Which is an incredibly niche fanfic type in the first place so I really don’t know how to describe fully how ABSOLUTELY awesome this is. Reminds me a bit of Humans are Space Australians

    The characters, world building, and fight choreography are brilliant.
    10/10 read again some day
