Summary
Goro's answering smile is a shield, his lone eye sharp as a sword. It's much easier for him to put up a fight, to bite and snarl and raze the world to the ground. After so many years of hurting, it's the only way Goro knows how to protect his broken heart. "Careful now. You might live to regret these words."
"Maybe I will," Akira hums. "But then again, maybe I won't. I don't like to believe in fate. I don't like to believe in anything I can’t choose myself."Or: As a new challenger rises, Goro and Akira must once again draw their swords.

There is no reason for Mishima to know the name of any resident of District 12. But he might remember the name of someone who shouldn’t be there. Someone whose criminal behaviour and subsequent exile had made the Capitol news.
Ren has already gone numb by the time the name is read out with not quite as much enthusiasm as Sumire’s. “Ren Amamiya!”
After being accused of assaulting a politician, Ren Amamiya is shipped out of the Capitol and expects to spend a year fighting to survive in District 12. What he doesn’t expect is to be chosen to fight for his life in the arena of the Hunger Games.

Summary
Amamiya hums. It doesn't escape Goro how despite all his teasing, Amamiya's eyes track his every movement. “So I'm willing to give you a chance. But, more importantly, can you keep up with the job?”
Goro doesn't hesitate before he answers, “Can your job keep up with me?”
When Amamiya laughs, deep and rich, Goro knows he is doomed. “Fine by me, then. When can you start?”
“Now,” Goro says. “I can start now.”
“Then I hope we get along, Goro.” A small, sincere smile blooms on Amamiya's face. Just as sincere, Goro smiles back.
Ren Amamiya, knowingly or not, already holds Goro's heart captive. -

Summary
His sword whistles past Goro’s ear, nicking at the delicate skin. Goro grits his teeth, body tense with anticipation. The rain makes it hard to predict where Kurusu’s black sword will strike next.
“Hifumi passed on your greetings,” Akira Kurusu says, fury simmering beneath his conversational tone. “And I’m polite enough to give you my own in person. So greetings, General Goro Akechi. I am the man who will kill you.” Kurusu bares his teeth in a poor imitation of a smile, anger written all over his face, and strikes again.
Or: Goro Akechi and Akira Kurusu are generals on opposing sides of war.

Summary
Akira can't hear the siren's song but can feel it in his bones all the same. The bewitching cadence of the beast's voice pulsates through the brine, every vibrating note matching the beat of Akira's heart as the crescendo reverberates through his skull. A weak, distant echo of lost inhibitions.
Were Akira anyone else, the siren's guts would have been his coffin, and the shallow shores of an unnamed island his grave.
Provoking a mindless monster won’t do him any favors, never does, but he can’t quite resist the temptation either. Eyes never leaving the seachild before him, Akira offers it a smirk, resting a finger on his temple and tapping his ear.
His deaf ear.

Summary
Before Akira can ask more, Goro silences him with a kiss. It’s slow, tentative—a chaste press of his lips over Akira’s stunned ones. It’s a surprisingly effective way to shut him up, rendering Akira soft and pliant under his hands.
“Then… Would you let me show you?” Goro murmurs against Akira’s mouth, thoroughly enjoying his sharp intake of breath and the subtle shaking of his lips. “Let me love you exactly like you deserve to be loved.” -

Summary
Akira's lips slowly disconnect from his bleeding wrist, tongue painted red as he eagerly laps at the cut, a brand new wildness barely contained in the storms of his eyes.
"Akechi–" His voice is barely above a whisper, hunger so evident in his voice it sends a shiver down Goro's spine. "Goro– I’m so thirsty.” -

Summary
It's warm to stay near Akira, in more ways than one.
Comfortable.
Something Goro could get used to.
It chases away the harsh colds of winter, drives away the sharp loneliness that stabs him repeatedly between the ribs every time he breathes.
Maybe for today, Goro can put down his weapons, can tear down his walls—can let Akira in, inch by inch, until he is just as part of Goro as Goro's own heart is.
Maybe just for today, Goro can pretend he isn't a walking corpse with an expiration date just as set as it had been when he was Shido's underling.Alternatively:

Summary
"Well," the newcomer—KID, Shinichi reminds himself—settles right next to him, sounding way too cheerful for someone who had just stopped an in-game possible murder, "We should start heading to the Arena. If we bail things will only get worse."
"We," Shinichi echoes, voice flat, "I think you mean you."
"What a wonderful way to thank your savior," KID sniffs, affronted, "Yes, we. You have to come too or else they will hunt you down out of the Plaza either way. The set you got there is worth a house and then some. Maybe more. I'm not that up to date with the selling prices." -

Summary
When the spray of blood and brain matter from Kaneshiro’s head hits his face, he does a very good job of trying to refrain from moaning because god, it felt incredible. He can’t quite quell the way a breathless little whine escapes but that was fine.
He still had plenty left for later—and it’s not like there was a single soul left alive in the room to hear him.
The silent sea of bodies left in his wake seemingly agreed to the feeling.Series
