for a while after it happened, everyone asked the same question; if they had known the outcome, would they have continued? of course they would have. they were stupid and in love and, while it burned, their love was the kind that was so intense and all-consuming that you were blinded from it. their love for each other rivaled their love for their hockey games that united them, both a game that they could win and lose. they just never expected to be on opposite sides of the game; they never expected that one could win while the other lost.
both boys died that day.
one would be buried. his family would sob over the closed, wooden casket and he would not be there to protect them like he always had.
one would be forced to live on. he would be forced to hide the bruises that were inflicted on pale skin, and be forced into a game he had long lost his love for.
