It was really just his luck that a hulking monster lumbered out of the woods and directly onto his driveway. Just his luck that he threw enough parties when his parents were gone that the neighbors had long tuned out any noise that came from his yard. Just a nice cherry on top of the fucking cake that, even if anyone did hear him screaming when claws tangled in his jacket and pulled, Steve honestly wasn’t sure they’d have cared enough to bother anyway.

Summary
Steve looks down at his hands, which are shaking violently. His room is dark, and the silence is overbearing. The smell of blood fills his nostrils, even though there’s no blood anywhere. Only in his head, and now on his hands as he watches them. Screeching outside of his windows has him flinching away. Wings beat against the window, and Steve knows it’s not real. He does, but it also is. And his heart is beating out of his chest, his skin clammy.
Everything is red, just like the sky, a sky full of bats. And they’re tearing off his skin, biting into his side. He drops into the corner, arms over his head. He’s quivering, trying stop, but his head is spinning now. Everything blurs together, and then Steve wakes up face down on his carpeted floor. It’s hard to breathe like this, and his whole body hurts. He pushes himself up on shaking arms, tears dripping down his face. It’s light outside now, birds chirping, meaning he’s been out for at least six hours.

Nightwing’s smile widens. Batman can see the wickedness leaking into the smile. “Does everyone usually go?”Diana nods, “Typically yes. Almost every leaguer will be there. It goes throughout the day, and we end up at shifts there in a way, so that we are still patrolling, but ensuring we can still all interact. Batman is the only one who has never made an appearance.”
Turning to look at Batman, Nightwing leans forward to get a better view of the man. “Really? You don’t say.” Nightwing smiles sweetly. “And why is that Batman?”
Batman glares at Nightwing. The two stare at each other for several tense seconds. Nightwing is holding back a smirk. “Don’t you have a family you’d like to meet everyone?”
Superman puts up a hand and starts to cut off Nightwing. “Now, Nightwing-”
“Wouldn’t they like to meet the league?” Nightwing questions, cutting off Superman.
“No.” Batman deadpans. Pushing back from the table, Batman stands and turns away.
“You sure about that?” Nightwing practically taunts.
