Summary
Lan Zhan is—everything. Wei Wuxian looks at him, and he aches. And somewhere near the base of his neck, wrapped around the white bones of his spine, the little hitchhiking ghost whispers: wouldn't it be nice, if we had him all to ourselves? Wouldn't that be nice?
That's the crux of it, really. Lotuses bloom for half the year. The sun sets in the west. Wei Wuxian wants Lan Wangji. And the ghost, too, wants Lan Wangji—but it wants much more than Wei Wuxian is willing to take.

Summary

But just as he grieved his mother’s passing with dry eyes and a stone in his chest, so he grieves Wei Ying: quietly, frozen inside, without tears. Beyond the Jingshi window it might be spring, but Lan Wangji’s body and mind are still held within the winter’s grasp.
As the anniversary of his leaving seclusion approaches, Lan Wangji ponders the nature of grief and healing.

Summary
There is a baby in Lan Wangji’s arms.
Small and wrinkled, probably not a newborn, but definitely a warm, squishy, baby. Who, like Lan Wangji, doesn’t make a sound as he’s cradled in white robes, naked as can be.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian starts, a little hysterical, eyes darting wildly between the child and the statue that holds it. “Are you hiding babies in your sleeves now?”
In the Xuanwu cave, Lan Wangji's spiritual energy reacts enthusiastically to Wei Wuxian. By complete accident, the result is a pure form of dual cultivation, however brief. Wei Wuxian's core leaves something in Lan Wangji, an imprint of sorts, a gift by any other name.

Suddenly, it snaps into place. The weary way Lan Zhan has been holding himself is suddenly cast in a new, much more distressing light. Somebody is responsible for it, a real live, horrible, blind, stupid person. The combination of guilt, sadness, and anger that sets in all at once is hard to contain. Lingering wisps of resentment that remain from the night-hunt flock to him, like calling to like.
All four boys stare at him with wide eyes.
“Wei-qianbei,” Sizhui says. “You look...um…”
“Scary,” Zizhen breathes, beaming.
“Who has rejected Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian asks.
Or; during one of his visits to the Cloud Recesses, the juniors strike a blow to Wei Wuxian's certainty that his feelings for Lan Wangji are one-sided.

Lan Zhan likes to bite things.
A weird itch he’s had since childhood. Back then he would chew anything he could, nibble on his toys, robes and brushes. His uncle made sure to scold him every time, but he never really stopped, he just learned to hide it by biting the tip of his tongue or the inside of his cheek. As he grew older he was able to do it with no one ever noticing.
No one except Wei Ying, of course.
