    Rudo, now slightly more alert, looked between Zanka and Enjin. He saw the way Enjin was looking at Zanka—with a raw, open adoration and a stupid dopey smile—and the way Zanka was leaning unconsciously into Enjin’s space.

    Rudo didn't say anything. He just took another bite of his burger, leaned his head against Zanka’s shoulder, and let out a content sigh.

    It felt like home.

    Summary

    A-Ying might trust this stranger, but A-Sing does not. She is the one who chases off the dogs, who fends off strangers when they get too close, try to steal what little they have, who pick-pockets locals because A-Ying is too noble to do it. She is not afraid to bite or scream or kick, to use any nasty means if it would mean protection, safety. She eyes the man wearily, not believing his story for a second, because A-Sing’s trust does not come easy; because A-Sing would do anything to protect her brother, too good hearted for his own good.
