Summary
Citrine is a mage specializing in arcane folklore and folk magic research. Vermillion is one of the last practitioners of a regional form of folk magic unique to the Mire. He's also Citrine's type.

The words take a few seconds to filter through to the part of his brain not determined to follow-up every one of Vermillion's answers for every last scrap of information he can uncover. The way he freezes, pen hovered over paper, must look comical because Vermillion chuckles low in the back of his throat, looking almost smug in a way that goes straight to Citrine's dick.
Mentally shaking himself, he clears his throat and rests the pen on its stand in what he's certain looks awkward despite his attempts to make the motion appear natural.
"Forgive me. For clarity's sake, are you saying you're…"
Citrine trails off, realizing he doesn't know what the local term would be.

Summary
Gideon's got it bad for his fellow farmhand, Huntsman. Which is fine. Ain't like unrequited feelings were the end of the world or nothing.
The end of the world was a whole separate thing.
Two years after an illness that either kills outright, turns the infected person feral, or causes strange transformations in those that recover, Gideon slips up and can't quite hide how much he cares for Huntsman. Thankfully his feelings are reciprocated and have been for nearly as long as Gideon's been in love with Huntsman.

Ruze was the absolute worst and this was clearly his fault.
Sure, Azure maybe should have deescalated their weird rivalry by now and Ruze hadn't forced Azure to pretend to be a woman or to buy the small wardrobe of women's clothing he kept triple-locked and hidden away just in case his parents decided to snoop through his things despite never stepping foot in his room since Azure was old enough to stop wetting the bed. Ruze hadn't forced Azure into dedicating the frankly obscene amount of time and effort required for the level of planning Azure put into picking his outfits, learning to do makeup, and staging the photos he dropped in Ruze's DMs every-so often alongside one of the flirty messages the filled his notes app.
But the fact Azure was going to these lengths should be indisputable truth that Ruze was the devil. It wasn't like any of this was Azure's fault.

Summary
The townsfolk have finally started warming up to the Huntsman and his friendship with Gideon has only grown stronger over time. Too strong, maybe, considering Huntsman is hopelessly in love with his best friend and liable to slip up in keeping it secret.
He could blame the alcohol but the alcohol is an accomplice at best.
Gideon's facing him, gesturing wildly as he tells a childhood story involving a 'possum in the attic that little Gideon'd mistaken for the ghost of a childhood cat. He's grinning as he tells it, voice raised because he's tipsy enough that volume modulation is a forgotten art. Huntsman's laughing, belly sore by the time Gideon gets to waking up with the damned thing in his bed, and something about the moment sends all the built up yearning rushing forth.
If he was sober, maybe he'd managed to reign it back in but he's doubtful. It's always been a matter of time before he slips up.
Huntsman kisses him.
