It had started out as their usual banter. Gust had made a minor-to-non-existent offense, and Clifford had feigned hurt and mused something about demoting him to a plumber, of course to Gust's exaggerated horror and apologies. Then, Clifford said something that gave Gust pause:
"I'm afraid I can't think of anything you can do for me now, dear boy, save for groveling pathetically at my feet and kissing my boots until I forgive you out of pity."
The mayor had sat down onto his office desk, facing Gust with a faux aura of finality that was only accentuated by the white daylight haloing the man from behind, casting a serious shadow over his face by stark contrast. Clifford crossed one leg over the other as if mockingly extending it to him, and, wow, had the Mayor always had such nice, toned thighs?

"Don't you get tired, Clifford?" The wizard murmured, his voice like warm honey, just barely audible over the sounds of clinking tableware, music, and the general bustling of the tavern crowd. "Tired of keeping up that facade of animosity?"

Summary
Clifford Rolexus has caught a witch (read: Citrine; very angry mage Clifford is convinced is a witch) after weeks of hunting him. While dragging him back to town, a second witch (read: Vermillion; literally just a dude with a Southern accent) appears talking about a bounty on the first witch. Then they fall into weird sex plants and fuck about it.
"Two options," the witch finally says, with the look of someone who's just swallowed a mouthful of pond scum. "First, we can wait out the effects. Unfortunately, the refinement of evening-glow also shortens the duration of its effects. As a conservative estimate, it'll take at least a full 24 hours for it to run its course unaided. At most… a little over twice that, maybe."
"So let's not do that," Clifford says. He's accidentally drank enough spiked wine and suffered the consequences over the year to know that sounds fucking awful, actually.
The witch nods. Though he doesn't sound thrilled about it, he continues, "Agreed. Which leaves option two."
"Which is?"
The witch stares at him.
Ah. Same options as regular evening-glow then. Right.
"Oh. Just fucking, then? Fine by me. How long would you expect that to take, by contrast?"

So please handle,” and Clifford generally waved his hand at the mage, “whatever all this is before returning to your tower.”
He didn’t really trust the man to use the waystones either. The last thing he needed was to hear about Vetruvius dying in the fires of hell because he’d drunkenly stumbled from the wrong waystone to his doom. Especially if anyone last saw him with Clifford it would be a pain trying to explain he really didn’t send this witch to the fiery hells this time.
