Summary
Eddie gulps down soda until he has no choice but to breathe or choke, then runs the bottle over his face and throat with a groan. The chilled glass feels amazing against his heated skin, sending a shock of cold dancing along his nerves. Condensation drips down his neck and soaks into the hem of his shirt until he raises the bottle to his lips and drains it completely. He opens the cooler again to swap his empty bottle for a full one and nudges Steve on the leg. “Harrington?”
“Huh?”
“Soda?”
“Hell yeah, give it here.” Steve blindly holds a hand out in his direction, hovering demandingly in the air, and otherwise does not move.
Eddie eyes the bottle and grins to himself as a wicked thought occurs. It won’t go well for him. He’s sure of it. But since when has that stopped him?
“Okay, man, sure. Here you go,” he says, affecting as innocent a tone as he can manage. He grasps the bottle, moves right past Steve’s outreached hand, and presses the icy glass against his bare stomach.

"The fuck are you doing, Harrington?"
"Getting comfortable." Is the only response Eddie receives before Steve's head lands on his shoulder, half on his chest as he scoots up in the bed. Eddie freezes, mid air guitar solo, and frowns.
"Personal space, dude." He's so proud of his voice for not cracking when he says it, "Heard of it?"
Steve snorts and takes a puff, smoke clouding around his mouth before he blows it away, lips pursed in the air. "Don't think you're one to talk about personal space but I'll move if you want."

In fairness: were Eddie in his right mind at the present moment, he’d likely have made out more of the conversations layering on top of one another, all at varying degrees of very-loud and increasingly-anxious and particularly-outraged, getting louder and vaguely more coherent as human speech the further he walked. He’d probably have put together some context, at least.
As it happens, though: Eddie hears some stray words and makes zero sense of them, not least because he thinks his heart might be in real danger of ripping its valves or something given the way it’s thrashing because Eddie, right now?
Is absolutely fucking terrified.
He drove close enough to the mall to get an idea of why he’s here. He’d thought the lights were fucking fireworks, until he got nearer to…
Yeah. He’s fucking terrified.

Or: Eddie’s been dating Steve since getting locked in a room together at that fateful Halloween Party—closing in on a year, now. So it’s only reasonable that he’s listed as Steve’s emergency contact when Starcourt burns down.
You can imagine how well that goes.
