I really want Charles to drop some of his flirty try-hard pick up lines on Edwin when he starts to figure it out. And who knows if it worked on girls in the 80s, but it *absolutely* works on Edwin, who is pretty sure that Charles is the coolest, sweetest thing that ever lived, and his stomach is extremely swoopy about it. In 1989, when Charles asks Edwin if he would miss kissing, Edwin, in a fit of uncharacteristic bravery, takes him up on his veiled invitation. It takes them a while to sort out, but by the time Port Townsend rolls around they've been married for decades.
