    As soon as Hua Cheng’s gaze fell on the person on the other side of the threshold, his eyes widened, and time around him suddenly came to a stop. This person, who turned out to be a man—a very handsome one, he immediately noted—looked startled at first, but when he looked up and met Hua Cheng’s mismatched eyes, his lips parted slightly in surprise. And for a moment, they just stared at each other; under normal circumstances, being watched with such intensity would have made Hua Cheng feel extremely uncomfortable and anxious—as it had happened before—but now it was different for many reasons.

    The most important of them was that his heart skipped a beat at the sight of this man.

    And the second one was that he didn’t mind being watched by him. In fact, his somehow awestruck reaction flattered him.

    “Ah, e-excuse me,” the stranger cleared his throat, clearly embarrassed at his own reaction. “My phone just ran out of battery. Would you mind if I charged it for a moment…?”

    Xie Lian, still fresh from his seventy years in the coffin, has ascended once again.

    Having finally found some measure of peace and happiness living with his savior and new beloved, this 'god of forgiveness' now finds himself all mixed up in grudges, rumors, and heavenly politics. Though still struggling under the weight of his recent trauma, he must now reconcile strained, age-old relationships and determine just what he even wants out of this new position that was suddenly thrust upon him.

    He doesn't have to face anything alone, of course, with his ghost king by his side, but considering what has recently crawled from the bowels of Mount Tonglu to terrorize the Ghost Realm, Hua Cheng's new place in his life suddenly feels less than guaranteed...

    "In the distance, something caught his eye. There was an unassuming little peach tree on the side of a hill. He could feel something about it was unusual, a slight glow to it against the gloomy sky. As he drew closer he realized the tree was growing out of the massive hollow stump of an old dead one. Though it appeared ordinary, there was an energy to it- a very faint spark of the divine that drew Hua Cheng like a moth to a flame.

    He knew, whether intentional or not, this was a grave marker."

    A coffin rescue fic with an alternating PoV.
    Before he can begin to recover from his experience, Xie Lian first must accept he's actually out of the coffin. Hua Cheng wants to avenge his God, even if that's not what he would want.

    Don't worry too much about Lang Qianqiu. He'll have a bad time, but I promise I won't kill him.
