Usually, when faced with one of Harry's non sequiturs, Kim would intentionally force his face to remain neutral, carefully hiding either confusion or a grin.
This time however, he opened his mouth to speak, then stopped himself before a single word left his lips. His eyebrows creased in a look of intense concentration, while his gaze went right through Harry, then snapped back into focus. Before the lieutenant was able to reign in his expression again, something flickered over his face.

Lighthouses are the next little celestial bodies. Lightmen all learn this at some point as they become a regular feature of the electromagnetic architecture. They do not become like clockwork, they become like seasons, consistent, rising, yet variable, yet unknowable. It is a shame that the lighthouse keepers have no way to sit down and tell stories with each other, or else, there would be a pantheon of Lightmen, for the sun, moon, and every star.

A month after the tribunal, Kim is finally released from the hospital. And learns that Harry has been left in Martinaise, his fate unknown. He resolves to investigate, for this is what RCM officers do, don't they?
"The lieutenant, presumably, would have looked in every corner for a quiet place to die. Somewhere to watch the sun disappear, to keep warm for the night and then shoot himself in the morning as a ‘thank you’ note to the space that had welcomed and sheltered him. The hypothesis was reasonable, correlating with his observations. He had hoped solving the case would prevent any such eventuality. He had thought he would be there to see to it. There was an absurdity at the center of this, a police car driving away as a successful detective watched it cross the bridge and disappear. He couldn’t make sense of it. That was probably where the numbness came from, more Drouamine than an addict would care for, and the Du Bois special: that urge to say something absurdly communist and then shoot a child in the chest. The RCM was not a child, though. And he wasn’t a communist." -

“You must be from the 41st. I’m Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi—though you seem to know that already.” He seems tense, for some reason—and his hand is still out. “I’m afraid I wasn’t told who you are.”
“It’s me, Harry! Kim, don’t you remember me? Fuck, there’s something really wrong happening.”
“If you’re referring to the dead body that has been hanging from a tree for seven days—then yes, I agree. It is pretty wrong.” Kim is looking at you with his mouth slightly pursed. There’s no recognition in his eyes—he looks at you like you’re a stranger.
“This can’t be happening." Kim clears his throat.
“You are clearly going through… something. But I would appreciate it if we could focus on the case for the moment.”
“Oh my god,” you say. “We did it already, Kim, but for some reason I’m the only one who remembers! This is some—some cosmic joke from the universe, I’ll tell you that.”
“Okay,” Kim says, slowly. “I’m going to give you a moment while I talk to the manager. You’re going to sit down and sort out whatever it is you’re doing. And then we’re going to take down that corpse.”
