Charles is glowing. He clasps Max’s hand, says a small congrats, winks at him cause why the fuck not and they’re whisked off onto the podium in a funny-looking Bentley. Max, crammed into the middle, looks over at him, and whispers “you reek” into Charles’ ear. There’s a noticeable bulge in Max’s pants that the cameras in the car barely pick up. If people online notice it, they don’t comment on it.
The podium celebration is beautiful, the Las Vegas strip lighting up the sky just as if it were daylight. Fireworks are everywhere. It’s the first real Las Vegas Grand Prix in this day and age. The crowds go wild, chainmail fences with black tarp covering up the racetrack are torn down, holes punched through them. He looks down at the crowd, and moans in glory.
He finally realizes it.
He’s going into a heat.

Summary
It’s the fall of 2012. Max Verstappen is 15 years old, and Jos Verstappen decides to move them both to Monaco to focus more on Max’s racing career. There, Max crosses paths with none other than his longtime racing rival and archenemy: Charles Leclerc. Though they initially clash, they end up realizing that they have more in common than not, and a tentative friendship soon blossoms between them. But as Max grows ever closer to the Leclercs, he realizes many things, upending everything he thought he knew about himself and his life.
Or: basically an AU exploring what would have happened if Jos Verstappen had decided to move himself and Max to Monaco in 2012. Could Max and Charles have ended up becoming friends?
