But before Ilya can begin to parse his reply into English, Shane bites his lip and adds, “Unless,” and Ilya’s stomach drops out from him. “I know you said you hadn’t been with anyone else since Tampa but…” he bites his lip. There’s something so tense and sad lingering around Shane’s eyes as he keeps his face turned away from Ilya. “If – if you did, miss sleeping with women, and you –” he swallows thickly, looking like the words are causing him physical pain. “If you – if you wanted to, in Boston when we’re apart…” Ilya doesn’t miss the way Shane’s hands shake slightly as he rubs across the back of his neck. “We don’t have to be exclusive.”

Shane takes a deep breath, smelling first the clean scent of the detergent they use for the sheets, and then deeper down to the scents Shane knows are his own and Ilya’s. His is metallic, bitter iron and rust. Ilya’s is petrichor and fresh grass, soft and earthy, and it soothes Shane. His eyes are covered with a soft blindfold. He lies face down on the bed, with his head turned one way, weight resting there and on his shins, his legs bound with soft rope in a frog tie and each wrist then tied to its corresponding thigh. Ilya had stepped back at some point, maybe only a few seconds ago and maybe two hours ago, and left Shane like this. Bound, helpless, his senses narrowing to their combined scents, the cool sheets against his skin, and the feel of the rope holding him in place.

Ilya ties Shane up and makes him come over and over until he cries. (Ilya also happens to be a werewolf, and Shane happens to be a vampire.)

Really too many people called Ilya an asshole when Shane was just as bad, or worse. Shane just hid it better, because Canada’s perfect golden boy could do no wrong.
Ilya moved to cross his arms over his chest and lean back against the headboard, hating how it put even more space between them, but not being able to let Shane think he was right.
“I don’t know what you are talking about.”
“Sure you don't, baby.”
Ilya was definitely not starting to turn the slightest shade of red.

Ilya’s dad has to go on his yearly work trip to Canada. That’s nothing new, except for the fact that Ilya’s mom just died, and he’s not trusted to stay home alone. So, to Canada he goes.
Ilya’s expecting to hate every second of Canada. And he does.
Until he meets Shane Hollander
Or: 12 year old Ilya finds himself in Canada, sees a boy with freckles on a frozen lake, and now has a life mission to become a Hollander. (He succeeds)
