Summary
Mike has friends. Good ones. People he loves.
But none of them do this to him.
None of them made the world go quiet just by standing nearby. None of them make his chest ache when they’re hurting, make him feel like it’s his job—his purpose—to fix it, to protect them from ever feeling alone. Except for Will.
He doesn’t let himself consider why Will is the only person who does that to him.
Because the second he does, everything tilts.

What I wanted to happen after Wills coming out scene, because I need byler and i'm not okay.

Summary
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
The words came out before he could stop himself. Mike knew he had no right to ask but he was hurt, hurt because he had always defended Will, he would always defend him. He used to know everything about him, they would always tell each other everything first.
Things had changed when Will was in California but the past 18 months while they were living together they had fixed things, they were a duo again… in Mike’s eyes they had. Together. Will had promised.
“What–? I mean… it's not really something that just comes up in conversation.”
or, my rewrite of volume 3 because what WAS that.

Summary
Mike (idiot that he is) still doesn't know what this unnameable thing is, but what he does know is that it's always been there. Has always been inside of him, has always swirled within the depths of his chest, and has always tried to make itself known whenever he was (and is) in the presence of Will Byers.
But seeing Will in this new light was the equivalent of being whacked across the head with a baseball bat. A baseball bat built solely to amplify any and all already present feelings, making them impossible to ignore. Suddenly, the thing inside him wasn’t quiet anymore. No, it was (and is) loud. Loud enough to override all the other thoughts that should be occupying his brain space right now, and loud enough that even he can’t shove it back into whatever mental closet he’d kept it in.
OR: Mike doesn't clock it. Robin does.

Summary
“I’m really proud of you.” Mike blurted out, breaking the silence between them with a voice that was just a touch too loud; it startled Will, making him jump back before he relaxed. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to be that loud.”
“It’s okay.” Will reassured him, it wasn’t Mike’s fault that he jumped any time there were loud voices.
He thought about what Mike had just said; he could take a guess on what Mike was referring to—it wasn’t like it was rocket science. A giddy feeling rose up in him, one he did his best to squash down; he didn’t know why, but he liked the idea of Mike being proud of him; it felt like he did something right, which was probably stupid. “Proud of me?”
While in the Upside Down, on their climb up the Radio Tower to The Abyss, Mike and Will stop for a break and they have a very different conversation then the one in the show.

Summary
This is kind of a rewrite. I altered the coming out scene and the final battle. In this fanfic Will and Mike go to the church for the battle to control Vecna from afar instead of going to the abyss with everyone.
“…Will?” he says quietly.Will doesn’t respond.
Mike takes a step closer.
“Hey,” he says, softer now. “What’s wrong?”
A beat passes. Then another.
“Oh,” Will says finally breaking the silence, voice light, empty. “It’s nothing. I just got kind of sad.”
Mike’s brow creases with concern. “Why?”
Will exhales slowly. “It’s sad how easy it was.”
Mike steps closer, heart starting to pound. “How easy what was?”
Will lifts his eyes.
The sadness drains away, leaving something sharp and knowing behind. His eyes are dark, no resemblance of the beautiful green from before. There’s almost a glint of amusement behind them.
“It was so easy,” he says quietly, “to convince him that he was unlovable.”
