Summary
“Oh,” Eddie yells after him, tone almost mocking. “So that’s it? You’re just going to walk away?”
Buck stops, biting down on his cheek. He knows, distantly, that they’re making a scene. That everyone who isn’t actively putting what’s left of the fire out can see and hear everything they’re saying. He sighs. “I don’t know why you’re so pissed,” he mutters, twisting back around to face him just in time to see Eddie’s eyebrows rise high up on his forehead.
“You don’t know why I’m pissed?” Eddie asks, stepping towards him.
Shit. He needs to walk away before this blows up. They’re one throw away comment from explosion.
Buck whips back around, taking a step towards the engine and away from Eddie. “That’s what I said,” he calls over his shoulder. Which—maybe, isn’t the thing to say to cool things down.
But—
“I’m pissed,” Eddie shouts back, voice frayed and desperate, “Because I fucking love you.”

Or, loud so everyone can hear.

Summary
“Yeah, about that.” Harry interrupted, and May sighed. So much for subtlety, she supposed. “You and Eddie.”
“Are best friends.” He answered, with the finality of a conversation finished.
Buck might be used to being the annoying little brother, and May might be used to being the tired older sister, but Harry was ready in a way May had to find a little funny.
“I was going to say super gay.” Harry answered casually.
Buck sputtered. “I’m bisexual and you know I’m bisexual.”
“Okay and what’s his excuse?”

Summary
Buck’s skin was draining pale. The fact that he didn’t scream when the tourniquet tightened was a bad sign. Really bad. Buck was so gone already, and they still had to make it out of this basement.
Buck whispered, “So… go,” like it was obvious: leave Buck behind. Like saving Chris was all that mattered.
“What about me?” Eddie asked under his breath. “Huh? What about you?”
-OR-
The 118 responds to a fire at the building where Chris's class is having a field trip. When Chris is left in the building while it burns, Buck races inside to get him out. Buck is injured. Then Eddie has feelings. He isn't eloquent. But we know what he means.

Summary
Buck is about to drop it, but he notices that Eddie’s fingers are turning white where they’re squeezing each other. And Buck thinks, something’s about to get punched.
“You sure you’re not mad about something else?”
“Not mad.”
“’Cause… Chim kind of thought you might bring me home. Keep an eye on me while I recover.”
“No,” Eddie answers swiftly, “I was never going to do that.”
-OR-
Buck gets struck by lightning, and Eddie doesn't want to look at him. Buck tries not to spiral in a restaurant bathroom, and Eddie doesn't want to leave him. Buck is so certain he's looking for something, and Eddie doesn't want to clue him in... Except he does. He so does. For like seven whole episodes, Buck processes. Eddie pines.
The post-lightning strike Buddie arc I (we?) deserved. This fic covers 6x11 through 6x18 with altered/extended or added scenes in each episode. Assume that any canon that isn't referenced stays exactly the same.

Summary
Moving to LA and joining the LAFD, Eddie had planned to keep his head down. His only plan was to get through his shifts, take care of his son, and figure out this whole "single dad" gig for the sake of his little boy. He didn't plan to focus all that much on making new friends. He certainly didn't plan to keep date-crashing Carla's handsome teacher-friend with the birthmark just over his eye.
~~~
Eddie barely has time to start the car before Chris is asking, "Dad, did you know dinosaurs had feathers?"
Eddie chuckles, setting the radio to a nineties station on low volume, "I did not know that, bud."
"It's true! Buck told me!" But with Chris's youthful lisp the name was still pronounced like "Duck."
"Oh, well if Buck said so it must be true," Eddie snorts.
"Hey," Buck gave Eddie a light smack on his shoulder, "I'll have you know I'm a trusted source for information."
Eddie can't help but smirk back, "And with you saying so, it must be true."
Summary
When Maddie showed up at the one-eighteen covered in bruises and needing a place to stay, Buck didn't hesitate to let her into his home and the new life he had created in L.A. While he was happy to have his sister back, he was tired of insisting to her that he wasn't as lonely as she accused him of being. So when she assumes he's in some secret relationship with his coworker and best friend, Eddie, Buck decides it couldn't hurt to tell a little white lie, especially when it meant his sister could focus on something that wasn't her own past.
Now Buck is stuck trying to navigate through a ruse of his own creation while dealing with newfound feelings for his best friend that seemed to sneak up on him.
Oh, and did he mention the mysterious accelerant that kept finding itself in his path, putting everyone he loves in danger?
Summary
“You had sex with Tommy in my house, in my room,” Eddie spits. “I think I’m allowed to be pissed.”
“No,” Buck growls. “You don’t get to do this, Eddie. It wasn’t your house anymore, it wasn’t your room, it was mine because you left!” He clenches his fist, his own anger taking over. “You left me.”
“I had to go to Christopher,” Eddie crosses his arms over his chest, eyes so cold Buck shivers. “You know that.”
“I’m not talking about Texas and you know it,” Buck argues. “You lost the right to judge whom I have sex with six years ago, when you broke up with me.”Or Buck and Eddie went on two dates six years ago, they fight about it because Eddie's jealous of Tommy
Summary
“What the fuck, Buck. Look at us! We don’t do this, man. You can’t just up and leave after things get hard!” Eddie wasn’t sure how to stop being angry, how to not put everything on Buck, but his best friend leaving sure wasn’t helping.
“Oh, but you can?” Buck snarled and Eddie looked at him in disbelief.
“You…No. We’ve been over this. I know that you don’t think that I…” Eddie was lost for words but Buck quickly started speaking instead.
“That you what, Eddie? That you didn’t leave? That you haven’t changed? That we haven’t changed? Because we sure as hell did. And El Paso wasn’t the first time you did it. It is your fucking thing."
Or
In the midst of their grief, Buck and Eddie fell out of their usual rhythm and went into two completely different directions. After a fight that took way too much from both of them and after the news that Eddie and Chris were staying in LA, Buck decided to move out and leave this thing between him and Eddie behind.
Or
Summary
Buck accidentally serves Eddie with divorce papers.
Eddie was standing in the living room, phone clenched in his hand. He didn’t yell. Not yet. He held the phone up, screen glowing, and said very clearly, “Why am I getting divorce papers?”
Buck froze. His smile vanished, eyes widening as recognition hit all at once. His brain scrambled, pieces clicking together too late. “Oh,” Buck said. “It really was that easy?”
Eddie’s jaw tightened.
Buck took a step forward automatically, hands lifting like he could calm this with his body alone. “Okay, so, hear me out—”
Summary
Buck’s . . . not sure how he got here.
He knows how he got here, it’s just the here of the matter that’s got him five degrees south of a full mental breakdown partnered up with the full scale collapse of the most important relationship in his life. Because Eddie—Eddie’s doing him a favor—and Buck’s body, Buck’s traitorous fucking body is assigning a level of intimacy to all this that’s so beyond warranted, Eddie’d be up and across the room before Buck could clear his throat if he had even the slightest sliver of suspicion.
Which is to say—
Eddie’s straddling Buck’s back, hands digging into the meat of Buck’s thigh, working out the aches from one of the most exhausting shifts he’s ever been on—and that is including any shifts featuring the Q word—because he’d been kind and caring enough to notice that Buck’d been favoring his good leg towards the end of the shift. His thighs are bracketing Buck’s, and Buck, god, Buck can feel every shift and flex of those thighs as he leans forward and shifts his weight.
Or, Eddie makes Buck tell him what he needs.
“How long have you known?”
Maddie reaches for the phone, and Chimney waves her off, shaking his head. “Depends. What exactly is it that I know?”
Another pause, followed by a sigh that just about says everything on its own. “I think I’m in love with Buck.”
Instinctively, he reaches out for Maddie, nodding, as he pulls the phone away and mouths "it’s happening" at her. He opens his eyes wide, which he hopes translates to about a million exclamation points tacked onto the silent statement.
Summary
May glances up at him, raising an eyebrow. “Yes?”
He drops the fork, leans back in the booth, and stares at her—can feel how wide his eyes are, how tense his jaw is; the thrum of anxiety racing through his limbs and tip-tapping and shaking every surface he’s touching. He can’t stop it, though. He can’t stop it because—
He leans forward, grabbing the fork and spearing through a particularly fluffy glob of scrambled egg. “Eddie kissed me last night,” he says, quietly, carefully—it feels a bit like it’s being pulled from him, like if he doesn’t say it right here, right now, he might actually explode, but he doesn’t know how to say it, because it doesn’t make sense.
It doesn’t make sense.
And this--May’s the only one who can help him make it make sense.
Chris burst out laughing as Buck began to hiccup, his cheeks flushed pink from the alcohol and the cold. He stumbled a little, then turned to Eddie with a mischievous grin. “Boop!” he said, tapping Eddie’s nose with a mittened finger.
Summary
“Why not? You don’t look out for yourself. Someone’s gotta do it.”
“And you’re doing that how? By marrying me?”
”You—” There’s a pause on Eddie’s end of the line, like he’s just stopped himself from saying something regrettable. “I married you because you’re mine, Buckley.”
“I’m— what?”
“You heard me.”
“We’re best friends, Eddie.” Buck needs the reminder just as badly as Eddie does, to be honest. It's a fantasy and unless he crushes it now, Buck’s going to wind up even more heartbroken. “And you’re straight.”
Eddie just scoffs, “and you’re still mine.”
