The Wizarding World says the beginning of the Second Great Wizarding War started with Harry Potter and the young wizard’s first year at Hogwarts, and his ill-advised adventure to protect the Sorcerer’s Stone.
I say the beginning was Percy Weasley’s third year at Hogwarts instead.
For Third Year is the one where students are offered the option of taking Divination.
I say…the beginning starts with Percy Weasley in an incense-filled classroom, smoggy and decorated to distraction, all things shiny and all things vibrant, gazing at the dancing flame on the lit wick of a candle. A candle as watercolor a blue shade as his eyes’ irises. That was important, or so said the tipsy Divination Professor. I say this beginning starts with the silhouette of an owl flapping through that flame, and Percy Weasley entranced by its flaming feathers as, to him, it came to life. And flew through the incense. Leaving behind a jagged shape in the smog.
