Marinette cautiously rounded the hall to the living room. The Christmas tree stood all aglow, surrounded by prettily wrapped presents. A boy, wearing a green coat with the hood pushed back, stood in front of her tree, munching on a Christmas cookie. But he wasn't big or white-bearded, or tall, or fat. He was little, like her. "You're not Santa."
He smiled at her, and when he winked, his eye twinkled like she always imagined the real Santa's would. "Not yet. I'm Santa in Training."
