Summary
Icy blue eyes peered out from behind a dirt-stained hand, reminding Dick of a different time, a different alley-found kid who was taken too soon. He's met children like this before, wary of adults or the world around them in general, only relying on themselves at an age where they can't do enough to keep their heads above water. Blinking rapidly at the thought to hold back his tears, Dick remembered when Jason first came to the manor. Even as distant as he was with his brother at the time, he saw how the pre-teen acted out of self preservation even months into Alfred's mother-henning.
The small child in front of Dick startled when the vigilante spoke, kneeling on the sludge-covered alleyway. "Hi, my name's Nightwing. Are you okay, kiddo?"
A weary snarl distorted the youthful face, dirty black bangs hanging limply, obscuring the icy glare pointed Dick's way. "What's it to you, weirdo?"

Yeah, that's it. Dick's officially got Bruce's adoption genes. This sassy kid's coming home with him, no matter what.

Summary
At no point in Danny’s life has he ever turned down a challenge, even when he had to deal with opponents bigger than himself. From dealing with everyone from Dash to Vlad to heck pariah dark, he’s learned to take down people bigger than himself. So when he overhears that his nice father of four neighbors has been having some trouble at work and has been unable to get some time off, he figures it can’t hurt to try to help such a nice guy out. And it does go ok, all things considered; I mean, what if the guy’s boss was The Riddler, and so what if Danny maybe had to show off some of his less-than-human characteristics to get him to agree to let the guy have some time off? Everything worked out at the end of who cares.
Well, when word gets out that someone is not afraid to go tow to tow with the city’s villains, someone’s bound to either take him out or hire him. And when word gets around that he’s willing to help get better working conditions for Gotham’s goon workers, their union could use a new representative.

Summary
There’s an old phrase in Gotham: every Bat has a Cat.
Like most things whispered through Gotham’s smog, it’s only mostly untrue. Technically, the only Bat who ever really had a Cat was Batman himself—and even that’s been more of a tug-of-war than a love story. Though, not for lack of effort on Catwoman’s part. She’s tried everything: seduction, threats, borderline kidnapping. At one point, she swore she’d adopt all of Batman’s kids just to spite him. She’s teamed up with the Birds of Prey—where a few of the Bat-daughters moonlight—and once even tried to snatch up little Timothy Drake, back when he was still following the Bats around with a camera. It didn’t last long. Her first Stray had too big of a heart and was far too self sacrificing to not become the Robin Batman needed after Jason Todd's death.
And then there was that… incident with Nightwing. But Gotham doesn’t talk about that. Gotham forgets. Gotham represses.
Still, the saying sticks around, mostly as a joke. A rite of passage, the locals will wink: “Once the birds become Bats, they’ll find their Cat.” Like puberty, but with more rooftop flirting and potential felony charges.
It's all fun and folklore—until it isn’t.
