Summary
Rumi has always been a bad beta. She knows this intrinsically, as if it’s a fact etched into her skin as permanently as her patterns.
It isn't for a lack of effort. She tries to be a good meditator, a strong glue to hold them all together. She tries to do all of the right things; she leaves food and blankets outside of their doors during ruts and handles it patiently when the alpha posturing gets out of control.
She tries, and she knows that it isn’t enough, because if it was, there wouldn’t be this awful chasm in her chest. The constantly underlying want that settles under her skin whenever she’s with Mira and Zoey, or even when she's without them for too long.
Betas aren’t supposed to want. They aren’t supposed to have this terrible aching feeling that something is missing.

“I’d mark her one second into the relationship,” Zoey said mockingly, grumbling under her breath.
It's not like she didn't want to, they just hadn't found the time. Zoey wanted it to be something special, not something during a quick romp on a random Tuesday. And preferably not during her heat or their ruts, because Zoey wanted their heads to be clear. And now with all of them working, and especially Mira going all over for her photo shoots and fashion shows… it just hadn’t happened, yet.
Maybe she should lower her standards.
