“Arthur… you drank a lot.” I scanned all the empty bottles beside the sofa. At least 8 of those long necked bottles laid empty on the floor, labels of whatever they were long gone.
Arthur swung up the bottle he had in hand with a raspy “cheers!” before downing the rest of it in one gulp, tossing it to the pile. I wasn’t sure what to do, but I decided standing here staring down at him was awkward enough, so I slowly sat down next to him with a small gap between us. This was going to be a challenge.

I slightly chewed on my bottom lip as I tried to let the strange amber liquid give me enough courage to keep talking. I didn’t want to end this evening with another argument, but I wouldn’t mind if it ended with more kissing. I tilted my head up just enough to see Arthur’s peaceful expression as he continued to twirl pink strands. Void rippled in the air surrounding us, but not in any way that kept us from enjoying each other’s company. Arthur’s expression was ridiculously cute, but felt like something he almost never held on his battle-worn face.
Fuck it, time to seize some temporary bravery.
