Summary
It’s a high he’s riding, dangling there from the release handle, watching his friends board the lifeboat. Leg fine and it all kinda feels heroic, like the type of hero he should want to be. He’s ready to let go as the motor brings them closer, drop into the water where his friends can pull him to safety. And then, all at once —
Heat. Pressure. A loud boom. His body yanked before he can let go, pain rocking out from the shoulder.

After finding out that both of the kids in his care were a part of the infamous Phantom Thieves, Sojiro Sakura knew he was in for a long ride, and probably a few gray hairs. Even knowing the sort of trouble they got into couldn't have mentally prepared him to have one of those kids dragged into his cafe half dead right after hearing about his alleged suicide on the news.
Or; A leading contender for one of the longest nights of Sojiro's life.

Presumed dead, Goro’s taken refuge in Akira’s Palace—Well, “refuge” is a strong word. “Hiding like a coward with his tail between his legs” would be more accurate. After all, what does he have to live for?

Sumire’s still looking at her expectantly.
Futaba awkwardly waggles her hand in the scant space between them. “Would it help if you… held my hand?”
For Futaba, returning to the true reality is a daunting prospect — she and Sumire have that in common. It's hard to drag her out of the tar pit when they're both sinking in it.
