Seven hells, not this again.
In which, three years after the events at Ashford Meadow, all Dunk wants is to enlist in the tournament at King's Landing. He runs into trouble entering his name in the lists. Again. Before he knows what's happening he's accused of fraud and brought before the King on the Iron Throne. Now he must plead with a king he’s never met and doesn't know.

"You're in my chair," Duncan says accusatory, hands on his hips and shoulders squared, and still Maekar's gaze is on the letter. His voice is clipped.
"Last time I checked," he remarks, emphasising pettily, "it was the King's chair." His head twitches a little bit, but otherwise he remains dead still, though to Baelor his slouch looks rather tense.Duncan and Maekar put on a show for their King. Baelor is very pleased.

Maekar knew he had his privileges. Many of them, actually.
Maybe the most important of them all was being the eldest son, the Heir. And even though he was an omega, he was unwed. But not for a long time, since his parents want him to start having his own heirs.
Meanwhile, his little brother Baelor still didn't present, even if the maester say he is supposed to be an alpha. He has the age for marriage, but without a rut, he can't marry anyone yet.

The things he does for his brother. For the realm. If his dam could see him, she’d be struck down in surprise and joy.
“No.” The words barely pass his lips, the way Baelor’s teeth are pressed together. One of his hands reaches for Maekar, digging into the fabric of his sleeve, then his thigh.
“I cannot bear to see you with another. Not again.”

After Valarr's and Matarys' death, King Baelor needs an heir. Luckily, he has a brother willing to provide one.

Summary
After the trial by seven, Baelor lies wounded — and Maekar knows it was his blow that nearly took his brother’s life.
Ignoring his own injuries and every warning given to him, he crosses the castle to reach Baelor’s chambers, unable to stay away. Shame and fear follow him there, but Baelor only asks for one thing: that Maekar stay.
Hidden from the realm, bound by vows few know about, they find comfort in the quiet space between pain, guilt, and the familiar scent of home.

Maekar wants to scream. Baelor has not seen how close their family came to damnation and ruin, but Maekar has, he is reminded of it every time he closes his eyes.

Baelor Breakspear becomes king. It surprises no one that he should name Maekar his Hand. Still, as it happens, Maekar isn’t yet satisfied with their newly found nearness, which leads him to spike Baelor’s wine and creep into his bed.
