Summary
When Solomon had returned from the Arctic in 1849, he’d never imagined he would go back. Apparently, the Arctic was to be his lot in life. No one wanted to hire a disgraced marine, particularly one who had been publicly dismissed for mutinous acts, but the whaling captain who’d eventually hired him had only cared that Solomon knew how to handle himself in Arctic waters. Solomon had returned to work under that same captain year after year every whaling season since.

Summary
When Black Bartosch, lord von Bergow’s bodyguard, offered Henry to spend the night together before the Nebakov raid, Henry gladly agreed. He had no idea that the following day the two of them would be on opposite sides of the war. He had even less of an idea that, after accidentally running into the knight again, this one-night tryst would turn into so much more.

Summary
“Would you like a bit of chocolate, Mr. Collins?” he blurts. Is it awkward to offer something? Or is it expected? “I’ve no tea,” he continues. “No way of making any, or I’d offer that—” Do shut up, he advises himself, aware he’s speaking too low to be understood clearly, but he couldn’t raise his voice if he tried. His hands shake as he tries to unwrap the bar of dark chocolate for which he’d traded away two days’ worth of tinned rations, which make him queasy anyway.
Mr. Collins reaches over and lays his hand on Goodsir’s. “First, I didn’t come expecting tea. But I’d love a bit of that chocolate if it won’t put you out.” Goodsir studies his mouth as he speaks, the way his neatly made upper lip curls just barely up and out over his lower. A neat balance of the sensual and the spare in that mouth. Watch it, now, don’t excite yourself. “And… you ought to call me Henry.” With a callused thumb, he strokes the edge of Goodsir’s hand, the metacarpal ridge of the thumb down to the wrist. “And I can call you Harry, I hope?”

The Terror Bingo 2024-2025: Coal
-----------John frowned, and glanced towards the bucket of coal. Would it be worthwhile to get up, just to take one piece for the fire? After all, he was ever so comfortable in his chair, blanket wrapped around him and a teacup in his hands. Reminiscing on what had happened in the arctic always made a shiver run up John's spine. He looked up to the mantle, at the trinkets Edward had spread over it. The spyglass from Tozer was there, shining brass in the flickering evening light, as was a photograph of John and Edward, after a year back in England had gained them the strength they had previously taken for granted. Now, two years later, there were other things on the shelf too: small carvings, a simple wooden cross, a delicate vase of carefully arranged flowers... these little objects that served to remind John that both he and Edward had made it back alive.

Summary
“John,” Edward cut him off softly, “It’s quite alright. You’re hardly the first man to be overcome with…” he cleared his throat in lieu of addressing the condition by name.
John continued to babble and fret quietly, run-on sentences flowing endlessly as Edward struggled to grasp the situation in a way that felt, well, normal. His mind raced with images, unbidden, of what may have been the scene before his arrival; John on his back, hands clenching in the fabric of his shirt and his blanket, refusing to touch his skin for fear of temptation to seek more relief, his need throbbing between his legs, plush mouth open with frustrated noises, lips forming around a single word, a plea—
“Edward,” John’s actual voice cut off these horrifically inappropriate thoughts. He was staring up at the older man, insistent and frustrated. He may have been talking to him for quite some time. Edward had no way to know.
“Sorry,” he cleared his throat, “I may have a solution.”

Summary
A bark of near-hysterical laughter escapes him. “You cannot possibly be willing to lower yourself to something so detestable to... to what, bolster my spirits?”
Edward reaches for him, slowly extending his hand as if approaching a frightened dog and allowing it to sniff his fist for signs of ill intentions. In the cramped confines of the cabin, he need only lean forward a little to brush the tips of his fingers over the back of John’s hand.
“I don’t see it as lowering myself,” he says as he coaxes John’s hand into his own. “Especially not if it were with you.”
