Summary
Years after the war, Blake and Yang are happy, married, and ready to start a family. The day Blake finds out she's pregnant is supposed to be the happiest of her life, but everything changes when she finds out Yang got lost in a mission and is considered dead. Every morning, Blake glanced through the open shutters as she passed. And every morning, she’d smile just a little more at the sight of Yang Xiao Long, hair slightly frizzed by the oven’s heat, wiping flour and sweat from her face in equal amounts.
She’d shove her hands into her pockets as she passed, fingers itching to open the bakery door to say hello, to have Yang’s voice be the first she heard in the morning. But they both had work to do, lives to live while everyone else in the village was just waking up. Regardless, she’d see Yang soon enough, just not as soon as she’d like.
