Crowley gradually drifted awake. He stretched, then burrowed deeper into the sheets. The bedroom was still dark, but the light shining around the edges of the curtains showed morning was well under way. He listened to the birds chirping and thought about getting up, but he was far too comfortable. It was the angel’s fault, for getting this bed, the soft sheets, even the tartan duvet. He grumbled and rolled over, burying his face in the pillow beside his. He loved the way it smelled.

“Charge!” All the children scrambled towards each other, snowballs flew through the air, most coming nowhere near their target. Aziraphale joined in, but made sure that his snowballs only hit a dark clad redhead who returned fire most enthusiastically. Eventually the redhead hopped over the wall of the fort, and skidded down the hill. He slowly sauntered over to him, keeping one hand hidden behind his back. Aziraphale was brushing snow off his coat, and shaking it out of his curls.
Without looking at the other man, Aziraphale warned him. “Try to put that snowball down my coat, Crowley, and you will most sincerely regret it!”
Crowley casually flipped the snowball out of his hand. “Now would I do that Angel?” He smirked.
“Of course you would. I believe you said at our last encounter like this, ‘There are no rules in snowball fights, only winners and those who get wet.’“

Cradled in his Bentley, Crowley was trying to not think. Yes, they had won. Earth was safe now from the mechanisms of Heaven and Hell, but for him it was a hollow victory. He was alone, he would always be alone.

Summary
Aziraphale stood in the vast white emptiness of Heaven and gazed at the papers in his hand, without really seeing them. He still preferred the old fashioned paper documents, so they had produced them for him. For Archangel Aziraphale, in his white on white suit. The treaties and parameters were written out, Heaven and Hell would both leave Earth and humanity alone. Earth was under the protection of the Messiah now. Jesus had returned, not that the humans realized it, and was going to stay on Earth loving and guiding them all.
They had won. No more apocalypses, no more antichrist, second coming, or celestial wars. He should be happy, he was happy, he had accomplished what he came to do (sort of, really Jesus had done most of it). The world he loved was safe, but he had given up everything to insure that. He had seen Crowley, spoken to him, asked him to help and he had. But it was like speaking to a stranger. He had chosen Heaven and the world over their relationship, their ‘Us’, and that could not be recovered from. Crowley had made it plain he didn’t want his apologies, and had walked away.

Ireland, or Hibernia as it is also called, is a land of farmers and ring forts populated by Picts and Anglo-Saxons. They were rather fond of raiding the coasts of England and capturing slaves, including one Maewyn Succat. During his lonely captivity and work as a herder (for the Irish were also fond of raiding each other’s livestock), he had a religious experience praying much to God for guidance. He received it. (or so he thought) He escaped his captors, went back to England studied and was ordained as a priest, changed his name to Patricius and then decided to return to convert his former captors to Christianity. Or so the story goes. Things seldom go as planned when a certain Angel and Demon are involved.
