    Summary

Steve didn’t know what death felt like, not really. He had ideas—perpetual darkness, reincarnation, heaven, some ghostly afterlife. Maybe he’d be returned to the stars in one last comforting breath from Earth.

That would be nice. No memories to miss or consciousness to ruminate on.

But his head was splitting. Worse than when Billy beat it in, worse than when the Russians tortured him. The exotic matter had destroyed everything. So, he should be dead. Unfeeling. Peaceful. But he only hurt, aching up his nerves, his spine, his skull.

One last fuck you from the universe, kicking him while he’s down.

    Or:

The bridge explodes and everything goes down with it.

But, instead of dying, Steve wakes up somewhere completely different. July 2nd, 1986. Hawkins. The Squawk.

With a very much alive Eddie Munson.

"What’s scarier than saving the world? Figuring out what to do afterwards. I get it,” Eddie turns on his side, one shoulder on the wall, and grips the front of Steve’s shirt. His face is so close Steve can feel the warmth of his breath. “But we’ve got time now. Right, Steve? We bought us all time. Time to figure all our shit out. Isn’t that what matters?”

    OR

Steve Harrington struggles to find purpose after the Upside Down.

(But maybe purpose doesn't have to be big. Maybe it's helping Dustin navigate Sophomore year. Maybe it's reminding Robin to send in college admission letters. Maybe it's Eddie Munson. Maybe).

    Summary

Normally, he wouldn’t care. Most of the time, he honestly wouldn’t care but the thing is, Steve loves Valentine’s Day. It’s corny and cheesy and lame, and as much as Steve gives off an aura of Cool to those who don’t know him, Eddie does know him. Eddie knows that he loves candlelight dinners, flowers, and chocolates, and he knows that Steve is a little corny and cheesy and lame. But above all else, he knows that Steve deserves whatever he wants.

Sure, Eddie’s a little bit in love with Steve, and maybe today was supposed to be his chance to stop running from it before the universe conspired against him. Sue him.

    ---
Or, Eddie's plans to tell Steve how feels are thwarted my Mother Nature. Like all sane people in love, he pivots.
