Traught, whelmed, and feeling the aster, he’d said. Well she wasn’t feeling any of those things right now. In fact, she was rather distraught, overwhelmed, and definitely feeling the disaster. Heavy on the dis, as she felt a rib crack under her hands.
She’d seen him still and silent before, he was a Bat, contrary to popular opinion, Nightwing excelled at still and silent- when he wanted to. But this- this was wrong. The wrong kind of still, the wrong kind of silent. His face was twisted in a grimace even in his unconscious state. She refused to think of him as clinically dead at the moment.
The X-Pit had consequences if you weren’t a meta. Most of them had gotten to avoid them, thanks to Halo, but Nightwing had still been recovering. And now… they weren’t sure he would. -

They’re even more surprised when the form changes into a humanoid shape, with an iron bolt piercing one leg.

Summary
With Will/Roy and Barbara off world on a months-long peacekeeping mission, Dick and Artemis opt to shack up as friends to stave off the boredom and loneliness of being alone in empty digs. Not long after Artemis joins Dick at his apartment, they learn that Tony Zucco is not only alive, but free from prison and a protected informant within the Bludhaven Police Department. A series of incidents following implicates Zucco in sabotage and attempted murder--with Dick as his primary target.

Summary
Talons are made to last. They aren’t alive, after all, which significantly reduces the chance of death by illness or injury and completely nullifies any age-related death. Even cold, a Talon’s greatest weakness, only causes them to hibernate. They may look and feel dead, but they’re plenty capable of reanimating once they thaw out. Truthfully, a Talon goes out one of two ways:
1. Complete and total destruction of the Talon’s body in the heat of battle
Or
2. Being neutralized by the Court when they determine the Talon is no longer worthy of the title
That’s how a Talon is supposed to die.
But that's not how this Talon dies. This Talon dies to become something else. Something more.
And for conspiring against nature, this Talon pays the price.

“If I tell you to drop it, will you?”
Tim doesn't answer right away— but Dick already knew he wouldn't. He never did.
“...No,” Tim says finally, meeting Dick’s gaze without flinching. “You don’t get to disappear on us for a year, come back, pretend everything is fine and then expect me to just let it go. That’s not how it works.”
“He’s right you know,” the kid says unhelpfully. Why won’t he just shut up? Why is he always here?
Dick’s lip twitch.
“Tim…” Dick starts, but the warning in his voice doesn't carry much weight. He’s too tired. He’s been too tired for months. Maybe years. “Some things are better left alone.”
“Not when they’re eating you alive.” Tim’s voice drops, softer now, no less firm. “We’re not blind, you know. Jason won’t admit it but he worries. Damian keeps asking why you don't come by anymore. Even Babs—”
“Stop.” Dick’s voice comes out sharper than he means, and Tim flinches. Just barely, but enough for Dick to notice it and feel bad. He scrubs a hand over his face, exhaling hard. “The truth hurts worse than you think. And I’m not gonna put that on you.”
