    If he delayed opening his eyes a little longer, he wouldn’t have to deal with this. Batman was always good at swooping in to save people, right? He could wait, and he’d show up at the last minute to save the day, like the irritating bastard always did when the world was the right way around.

    But Edward was never very good at waiting. And every time Batman had shown up in the past, he’d gotten punched. Knowing his luck, especially this week, Batman would do it again purely out of reflex. No- if he was getting out of this mess, he was doing it himself, as always.
