Summary
A sequel to "The First Casualty of War".
Set during the First Hybern War. Azriel is in the Hewn City, torturing for his High Lord; Cassian is with the Windhaven troops, down in Spring, leading his little band of fledgling warriors; Eris is leading a battalion under his father, alongside his second in command, Hal.
At the end of the previous work, the three of them were, ah, greatly enjoying one another's company.
But what happens next? How's it even possible for the three of them to form any kind of connection, in a time of war, and when one of them is heir to a court where such a thing is unthinkable? And what if others found out?
It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Summary
Finding himself feeling disconnected and drawn away from his family, Azriel puts all his efforts into handling the looming threat of Koschei the Deathless. What he didn't plan on, was how that would repeatedly force him into close proximity to Eris Vanserra.
Speaking of Eris Vanserra, he has his own family dramas to contend with, which seem to be piling up day by day. Between plotting his High Lord's much-needed demise, keeping his idiotic brothers from getting themselves killed, and avoiding further kidnapping plots from a Death God - he absolutely does not have time to deal with the infuriatingly stubborn Shadowsinger that keeps demanding more and more of his very limited attention.
