Akashi was heralding a new age, was hailed as a prodigy from day one, had felled many enemies with a composure and skill that was being biographed by scholars.
Yet here in Kouki’s presence he was reminded of his inadequacy, a human like the rest of them, with desires and irrational imuplses. A human with obsolete instincts of a long dead era, reflexively lashing out first and questioning later, ones that put survival and the ugly characteristics that made it more likely first and foremost.

No sentencing. No crime to speak of.”
