"Fatigue, drowsiness, fainting, and remember last night she smelled tacos while you were cooking rice?! She started crying because she wanted tacos! Which reminds me, mood swings. That's it, our fingers got our girlfriend pregnant!"

Celine’s rules have kept her alive. Celine’s rules have kept her safe and warm and loved. Celine loves her, and because she loves her, she tells her that she can’t bond with her pack, her girls. If they found out— if they found out, it would be over. Celine tells her that it would be over because they’d kill her, that they would use their weapons against her, but all Rumi hears is that it’d be over because they would stop loving her and maybe that would kill her before their blades ever could.

Summary
The fear of being found out is gone now, but the shame remains, deeper than the markings on her skin. She still uses the perfume Celine gave her to conceal her scent and keep the demon side of her hidden.
Years of self-loathing don’t vanish overnight, but she’s trying. She has to keep trying, for Mira and Zoey at least. They’ll be devastated if they find out she’s having thoughts like this.

“Here in Laje da Jaguaruna, Brazil, competitors Maya Gabeira, Angelina Decesare, and Ryu Rumi surf in the powerful swells. It is neck and neck between Maya and Rumi: needs an 8.6 to beat Maya's past scores. But so far, everything is flat.
“Hold on? What's this? It seems a wave is forming in front of the girls. Holy cow, this is a big wave. Maya does not go over the wave, and Rumi! She's paddling out! Ryu Rumi rides the... 36-foot wave and growing!”
Rumi paddled faster than she had ever in her life - the wave wouldn't stop rising. The light rain and heavy mist hit her face in the air.
As she fell into the wave, her mind blanked, focusing only on what lay ahead. The peak of the wave curled faster over her, and the board rose. Shit, shit, shit. She bent down more, trying to get back to the base.
In a beat, she was brought over the lip before grabbing a breath of air, which would account for nothing.*＊✿❀ ❀✿＊*
