Summary
The months that Hera had hidden away her son were pure torture. She knew in her heart of hearts that Percy was still alive, but he was gone as if he never existed in the first place. Sally worried she would forget where his beauty marks were or the lilting sound of his laugh. She agonized that she would forget the exact hue of his eyes and how Percy lit up when the smell of cookies wafted through the apartment. To be left bereft of a child is a pain Sally would wish on no one, and if he died now, Sally would surely follow.

Being a stepdad is hard. Being just “mom’s boyfriend” is even harder. Being the grown-up and holding your temper in the face of teen attitude and rage? A Sisyphean struggle, for sure.
Some days Percy was happy to see Paul with Sally and other days Percy was downright stormy towards him. Teenagers and mood swings were an occupational hazard in his line of work, but something about Percy felt different. Dangerous. Like the teen was waiting for something, and if Paul made one wrong move he’d happily toss him out on his ass, literally.

Paul and Percy try to adjust to being in each other's lives. Paul fumbles more than once, Percy can't decide whether to trust the man or not. It all comes to head when Sally flinches during an argument with Paul.

Summary
All the signs were there, but Percy hadn't seen fit to tell anyone, not even Annabeth. Not yet, anyway. Perhaps if he ignored it all, things would return to normal. He and Annabeth had plans; they'd gotten engaged in the spring and were starting to plan their wedding for the following summer. Percy didn't want to worry her with these oddities. He'd already refused immortality twice; it wasn't something the gods could impose on him against his will. He knew that Poseidon dreamed of it, but he also knew that his father loved him enough to put the brakes on such a process, should anyone try to force it on him.
Yet, one autumn evening, the obvious became clear to him.
(Percy, I beg you. You've got to come.)
As quick as it came, the prayer suddenly faded, like a candle blown out by the wind, and Percy felt a terrible emptiness come over him. He would have given anything to be able to act, to intervene. The boy was probably no more.
Percy was ascending. He had received his first prayer, and there was nothing he could do about it.

Because one camper started praying to Percy, he began to ascend. Nothing will ever be the same again, unless he manages to counter the fate?
