She can only laugh. Here, a scarred, red-faced child with nothing but scraggly robes, crying about not understanding how he could help her. "Some things can't be helped by intent alone," she expresses gently, covering the hand touching her face.
"I don't get it, A-Niang said that intentions help."
"Your A-Niang was a bit naive then," she smiles helplessly, taking the hand off her face gently covering it and warming it back to a normal temp.
She lets go and stands, "Are you ready to go to your new home?"
The child nods and together they stride away from a flimsy hay mat in the snow-covered, muddied alleyway. Two straw figures were held in the child's arms with a faded painted flowered rattle drum in his hand. The child's greyed sash held together the mangled robes with a broken bell clumsily tied with a dirty red ribbon.

There's a mermaid bleeding in the lifeboat.
Wei Ying stands over the mermaid on the ship deck with his thumbs hooked into his own belt, coat swung back behind him. The mermaid looks at him like he’s a particularly pathetic bug, even though Wei Ying isn’t the one laying flat-out on the deck looking like a- well. A fish out of water, basically.
Wei Ying crouches in front of him and the mermaid bares his teeth, presumably to warn him off of touching or coming closer. Wei Ying holds his hands up, but frowns severely to establish dominance.
“Hey, buddy,” He says. “It’s not my fault you decided to bleed all over a lifeboat. We need those.”

Wei Wuxian mused sullenly while sipping his wine. He didn’t even notice Jiang Cheng spinning the bottle again until it was stopping, pointed at Wei Wuxian himself and indicating Nie Huaisang should be the one asking the question.
Ah, shit. Here we go again, he winced internally as his friend asked whether he’d like truth or dare. The dares had been working just fine for me. If I stick to them and choose truth only sporadically to throw them off, it’ll be alright.
“Dare! Let’s go!”
Nie Huaisang didn’t miss a beat.
“I dare you to kiss Lan-er-gongzi”
Wei Wuxian gaped. He was only faintly aware of Jiang Cheng spitting out a mouthful of his drink somewhere to his left.
Nie Huaisang grinned.
“On the mouth ”, he clarified.
