The 1980s are a decade of scared young things, terrified the comfort they seek will kill them, of fear and dread and paranoia. It reminds him of Venice, and the crawling rot of plague, the suspicious glances between neighbours as they'd snapped their shutters closed.

Inhuman eyes wide, lips parted, beautiful in the way genuine emotion always is. Daniel feels weirdly proud, to have upset someone so old and so vicious.
